New Disc Golf Discs for Sale in North Carolina - Only $5 Each and Up!

Learning Disc Golf Can Be a Family Affair - From 5 to 95.The Wilkes County Disc Golf Club was formed in 2009 in hopes to bring disc golf to the Wilkesboros of North Carolina (Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro, NC). Our goal is to build one or multiple disc golf courses in Wilkes County - either on public parks (county, state or federally owned land), privately owned property, donated acreage or a combination of any.

Join the Disc Golf Club and Become a Member of a Growing Group in Wilkes County.Disc golf is an affordable means of excercise and can be enjoyed by players of any age. With the current economy of 2009 & 2010, we feel that Wilkes county can greatly benefit from an affordable past-time and the added traffic that disc golf courses can provide. Statistics show that disc-golfers will drive well over 25 miles to play at a new or favorite course. From central Wilkes County, it is just over 25 miles to either Ashe County Park or Yadkin County Park — both of which have established courses. Boone doesn't currently have a course, so a Wilkesboro based course would also be an easy drive for disc golfers from ASU (Appalachian State University). The foothills of North Carolina offers an ideal setting for disc golf with its rolling hills and beautiful forests.

NEWS & EVENTS

The Fall & Winter awards ceremony will occur at a neutral location with a catered meal or possibly a pot-luck. If you know of a restaurant that would be interested in sponsoring/hosting, let Lance know, but Brookwood Bakery will likely be the catering source if no restaurant sponsors sign on. The series prizes will be presented at the meal.

According to the location, our series meal may also include the first ever WCDGC poker tourney (to follow) with plastic payouts! If interested, not interested or maybe interested, please let Lance know. It'd be a fun event for after-dark that doesn't require "glow". Anyone is welcome to the supper and poker tourney; wives are welcome to play.

Spring & Summer Series Brings New Rules:
Payouts are in plastic only (no cash value). Plastic fees are optional. You can play in any event (earn series points, compete for the ace pool & contribute to the club) and not be eligible for plastic pay-out (prizes), even if you place. CTPs, Long Putts (LP) and Long Drives (LD) are for plastic fee players only; 50¢ from each plastic fee goes toward purchase of CTP, LP & LD prizes (number of prizes depends on the number of players). Plastic prizes can be taken post-event or the amount banked for later use (bulk or larger purchases).

03/16/2010*
- Daylight Savings Random Doubles. Our first-ever mid-week event in Wilkesboro! Each player will be paired with another palyer (randomly) and they'll compete against all the other two-person teams for the win. Captain's choice format; each team plays their next shot from the best prior shot. 5:30pm start time. $2 or $5 buy-in ($1 club; $1 ace pool; $3 plastic - plastic fee is optional).

04/03/2010* - Springing Into Easter Event. Our first event of the spring & summer series. This event will be the FIRST bag-tag event for the 2010-2011 bag tag challenge! The buy-in includes your brand-new bag tag for FREE (a $3 value). Tags will be issued after the tourney. Future bag-tag events will be fee+$3. This year, no tags will be issued outside of a bag-tag event. $3 or $7 buy-in ($2 club; $1 ace pool; $4 plastic - plastic fee is optional).

04/17/2010 - Earth Day Tourney at <TBD> (still to be confirmed with Stack). Our second event of the spring and summer series. We'll be traveling to ??? (private course) in Yadkinville, NC. $3 or $7 buy-in ($1 club; $1 ace pool; $4 plastic; $1 course owner - plastic fee is optional).

*During each Tournament in Wilkesboro, a temporary course will be used for the tourney, but it will also be OPEN TO THE PUBLIC during and just after tourney play - feel free to bring your family, friends and play for FREE while we have the course set up to play our tournament. This is a great opportunity to see the course, land and potential layout we have here (without the tourney fee).

Membership renewals occur during June & July of 2010. Anyone joining during March, April, May or June will have a valid membership until June of 2011.

01/11/2009 - 7:00pm - Wilkesboro Town Hall Presentation - It went well, but we're now waiting to hear what the town council desides at the point it goes to vote. We aren't simply sitting on our hopes though; we're moving forward with a petition to prove the interest in a permanent course here in Wilkesboro.

Tuesdays - N/A - Most events are held over the weekend since the wintertime after-work daylight is limited (non-existent).

Saturdays & Sundays - If we don't have a tourney scheduled, we often will travel to an away tournament or fun-round; Hickory, Jefferson, Yadkin or Rural Hall will have events on most weekends. We will, at times, play in a PDGA event during peak season or just a fun-round. Call or email Lance for info.

Curious of the events WCDGC members plan to attend? Membership is only $10 and includes signup in our email distribution list to keep up with all the member chatter.

Members can always send their events and/or news
to the members only distribution list.
